Colours of North India Tour Details

Arrive at New Delhi IGI airport. You will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel.

The capital city bridges two different worlds - Old and New Delhi. Old Delhi is a labyrinth of narrow lanes lined with Havelis and formidable forts and mosques. In contrast, New Delhi is a legacy of the British Raj and comprises of spacious, treelined avenues and imposing Government buildings. Depending on when you arrive, you can plan to explore the city on your own.

Overnight is in Delhi.

In the morning, we explore Old and New Delhi both. Visit the Red Fort or Lal Quila built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the mid 17th century when he shifted his capital from Agra to Shahjahanabad. Not far from the fort, is the Jama Masjid - Shah Jahan's final architectural extravaganza and one of the largest mosques in India. We explore one of Old Delhi's most eye-catching sights, the Chandni Chowk, a colorful market in the city.

We then drive down to New Delhi down to Rajpath, the capital's broadest avenue, for a view of Parliament House, the President's House and the India Gate. Pushing further south, we visit Humayun's Tomb which inspired the Taj Mahal and the 72.5 meters high Qutub Minar, one of the tallest structures in the world when it was built in A.D. 1199. Also included in the tour are the Lotus Temple and the Rajghat- the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi. Later on drive to Agra. Rest of the day is for leisure.

Overnight is in Agra.

Today, feast your eyes on the Taj Mahal (closed on Friday) - the mausoleum of love built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his favorite wife Empress Mumtaz Mahal. The finest expression of Mughal architecture, this marble teardrop on the cheeks of time is today listed as one of the Modern Seven Wonders of the World.

Later, we visit Agra Fort whose muscular bastions symbolize the stature and power of Mughal Emperor Akbar. From here, one can see the Taj Mahal, as Shah Jahan did, during the final years of his life as a prisoner of his son Aurangzeb, gleaming like a jewel across the Yamuna River. This evening, you are free to independently explore the city which has a number of other monuments.

Overnight is in Agra.

This morning, we drive to the Pink City of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. En route we visit Emperor Akbar's 16th century abandoned capital of Fatehpur Sikri. Indeed, they say that if the Taj Mahal is a solo violinist, then Fatehpur Sikri is an orchestra. Once you check-in to the hotel, you are free to explore the fabled city of Jaipur on your own.

Overnight is in Jaipur.

A visit to the hilltop Amber Fort sets the pace for today's tour of Jaipur. Here you have the option of riding up to the gates of the former capital of the Jaipur Maharajas, on the back of an elephant. We then spent rest of the day visiting the famous sites and monuments clustered fairly close together within the fortified walls of the Pink City: the iconic and muchphotographed Hawa Mahal or Palace of Wind, City Palace Museum and the ancient Jantar Mantar Observatory.

Round off the day by shopping for treasures in the city's bustling markets and handicraft emporiums on your own.

Today we set off for Pushkar, the tranquil and sacred little town built along the banks of the picturesque Pushkar Lake. This is an important pilgrimage spot for Hindus as it houses one of the most important shrines of Lord Brahma of the Hindu Trinity. Once you have checked into the hotel, you are free to explore the settlement on your own.

Once here, you have the option to rest or explore the city on your own or maybe indulge in a little shopping spree.

The Lake City of Udaipur will charm you. We start our discovery tour at the City Palace which rises imposingly on the banks of Lake Pichola. One of the largest royal complexes in Rajasthan, it comprises of eleven mahals or palaces constructed by successive Maharanas since the foundation of Udaipur in 1559. Part of the palace complex has been converted into a museum that contains the amazing Crystal Gallery and Durbar Hall. The tour then moves to the Garden of the Maids of Honor and Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum.

This evening, you are free to explore the city on your own: you may set off on a Sunset Cruise on Lake Pichola which is studded with the famous Lake Palace Hotel and Jag Mandir.

Overnight is in Udaipur.

We set out for Jodhpur, making a welcome stop at the exquisite marble temples of Ranakpur. One of the many pillars that support the 1439 Jain Temple is intentionally crooked as the architect knew fully well that perfection is not possible on earth. Jodhpur is another three-hour drive away.

After checking into your hotel, you are free to explore the city on your own. Maybe squeeze in a little shopping.

Overnight is in Jodhpur.

We start our city tour at Meherangarh Fort, a complex of palaces that seem to surge out of the cliff on which it sits. The museum here is one of the finest in the country. We then proceed to Jaswant Thada, the cluster of white marble cenotaphs built in memory of local rulers, and proceed to Umaid Bhawan Palace one of the last grand palaces built in India.

This evening, we suggest, you devote a little time to explore the local bazaars on your own.

Today's program holds the promise of pure magic. After a 5-hour drive, we are in the Golden City of Jaisalmer. But we don't stop here; we drive out into the Thar Desert and check-in to a tented camp. Come evening and we are off on an exotic Camel Safari on the famous Sam Dunes. The Ship of the Desert will take you on a Sunset Cruise across golden sands that ripple across wind-caressed dunes. Top off the evening with an entertainment program provided by local dancers and musicians.

Back in Jaisalmer, we start the day at Jaisalmer Fort which houses an entire township. Visit the beautiful Nathmalji-ki-Haveli and Patwon-ki-Haveli, three beautifully sculpted Jain temples built between the 12th and 13th centuries and five interconnected palaces.

This evening you are free to explore the city on your own. We suggest you drop by the cenotaph and watch the fort glint like gold while being kissed by the rays of the setting sun.
