DAY 5: GOA - BADAMI

After an early breakfast, we drive to Badami, surrounded by beautiful countryside and red sandstone hills. DAY 6: BADAMI - AIHOLE & PATTADAKAL - BADAMI

Today, we set out on a full day excursion to Aihole and Pattadakal. Aihole is where you will see the evolution of Hindu temple architecture from the early shrines of the Lad Khan Temple to more complex structures like that of the Meguti Temple. Pattadakal, once the second capital of the Badami Chalukyans dynasty, was also the playground of Hindu temple architects. Back in Badami, you are free to explore the town on your own.

DAY 7: BADAMI - HAMPI RUINS - HOSPET

After breakfast we drive to Hospet, stopping en route to explore one of the most fascinating historical sites of South India, the ruins of Vijaynagar at Hampi. Palaces, temples, market places, courtyards... still reflect the past grandeur of Hampi. We then proceed to Hospet where, you are free to explore the town on your own.

After breakfast we proceed on a full day excursion to Belur and Halebid where the temple sculpture compares with the best in India. The main attraction in Belur is the Chennakeshava temple complex dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his handsome avatar. Though the main temple structure is relatively squat by temple standards, it is amazing in terms of artistic expression. Likewise the walls of the Hoysaleshwara Temple in Halebid are alive with tales from the scriptures.

Built on a long island marooned in the Cauvery river, the crumbling fort stands testimony to their historic resistance to the British. Check-in the hotel.
